My responsibilities:
While I came back to this team to work as a Veterinary Assistant, my responsibilities soon grew. With the nation facing the COVID 19 pandemic, a surge of puppies and kittens across the nation were adopted. Likewise, many people are moving form CA to Austin, causing a housing influx. Both of these things together have impacted the veterinary industry greatly, and we were short staffed. Thus, the senior technicians took me under their wing and gave me more responsibility, trianing me to be a technician. As a veterinary technician I still have the jobs assistants do such as holding animals, prepping for surgery, assisting with procedures, drawing up and giving medications, and cleaning and sterilizing everything. However, this summer I found myself helping the doctors more directly by working rooms with clients, taking notes, making estimates and discussing payment with clients, putting in notes, prepping patients for surgeries, placing catheters, working as a technician for drop-off cases, running laboratory work such as stimulation tests, blood panels, blood counts, fecal floats, and more, as well as reading some of the cytologies I set up under the microscope. Finally, I was also responsible for doing my part to keep the team environment flowing by helping my fellow technicians, doctors, clients, and patients whenever possible. Hours Worked: 450 |
